Gamze Karaca
Associate Scientist III

Gamze received her M.Sc. degree from the University Delaware, Newark at the Department of Animal Science. There she has studied the molecular mechanism of how the Herpes Virus of Turkey (HVT) vaccine elicits a protective effect against Marek’s Disease Virus (MDV) infection in chickens. After receiving her degree, Gamze began working for the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill in Dr. Charles M. Perou’s laboratory, gaining experience in molecular classification of breast cancer subtypes based on their gene expressions. Following breast cancer research, Gamze joined Dr. Anna M. Diehl’s laboratory in the Duke University and worked for 6 years in her research group, during which she studied the molecular mechanisms of acute and chronic liver diseases, such as non-alcoholic fatty liver diseases (NAFLD) and alcoholic steatohepatitis (ASH), using chemical and diet induced liver fibrosis animal models.
In September 2014, Gamze joined the Dr. Duffield as an Associate Scientist.

My interest outside the lab includes gardening and playing basketball with my son and daughter.
